Outline

When you create a localized version of an activity, a parent-child relationship is created between the original, parent locale and a localized version, or child locale. This relationship lets you edit translatable content and properties at the child-level and maintain non-translatable properties at the parent-level.

This article covers the activity elements that are duplicated when a child locale is created, gives you an overview of the activity properties available to be edited on child locales, and highlights the equivalency relationship between parent and child locales.

Content & properties duplication: Child Locales

Here's a breakdown of activity elements duplicated to a child locale from the original, parent locale - by activity type:

Paths/Collections

  • Path/Collection descriptions and translatable properties are duplicated. Path/Collection content is not duplicated

Pages

  • Page content, components, and translatable properties are duplicated

Assessments

  • Assessment descriptions, questions, question sections, and translatable properties are duplicated

E-learning

  • E-learning descriptions and translatable properties are duplicated. Courseware files are not duplicated, but must be uploaded.

Evolve

  • Evolve course descriptions and translatable properties are duplicated. A Localized version of the course is created in your Evolve account; ready for translation and/or updates in Evolve.

Activity properties: Child locales

Child locales are created with a subset of activity properties, making only the translatable property fields available to edit. All other properties are managed through the original, parent locale.

The following property fields are editable for a child locale:

  • General Properties
    • Title
    • Cover Art
    • Alt Text for Cover Art
    • Hero Image
    • Code
  • Catalog Properties
    • Topics
    • Summary
    • Keywords
    • Group Restrictions
    • Prerequisites
  • Award Properties
    • All Award options
  • Advanced Properties
    • Letter Triggers
    • Comments
    • Comments Email List
    • Auto-Enrollments
    • Group Memberships
    • Restricted Admin permissions
    • Survey

You'll see a link to the parent locale across all Properties pages of a child locale.

Updates to the properties of a parent locale can be bulk published to each child locale - as needed.

Parent & child locale equivalencies

Localized versions are connected, and set as child equivalents, to parent activities. Locale equivalencies empower the platform to connect learners to content in their preferred language.

For example:

A user in the Spanish locale comes across an activity in English - with a locale equivalency, the platform will let the user know the activity is also available in Spanish - as seen below:
